Descriptive Praise

Welcome to the interactive and follow-up best practices for the Descriptive Praise chapter. Here, you can access the reflective Journal Questions and the Phrase Cards.

Questions for Journaling

  • Do you ever find your children sharing their accomplishments, whether big or small, when you may be distracted by another task? If so, do you feel you may be unintentionally dismissing their efforts because you are not able to be fully present?

  • Do you ever feel that after your child shares something they are proud of with you that their level of excitement lessens after your response?

  • How do you typically celebrate your children’s accomplishments? Do you display their work on the fridge, wall or somewhere else? Preserve it in a special portfolio?

  • Based on what we have discussed in this chapter, how do you think Descriptive Praise can support your parenting structure?
